WHAT WORKTOP WILL YOU CHOOSE?

Need the durability of a commercial kitchen but the comfort of a domestic one? Steelplan Kitchens made-to-measure worktops are the ideal solution…

A semi-commercial kitchen combines a steel frame with a domestic look that wouldn’t look out of place in any home, or your church. And although steel might not have the most attractive finish and can often be noisy, Steeltops, our own brand of steel worktops are a popular choice for many churches. Providing the ultimate work surface for longevity, durability and ultimate hygiene, they are designed with welded-in, seamless sink bowls and drainage, preventing bacteria from hiding in joints and grouting. Easy to clean, our stainless-steel worktops also offer a heat and stain resistant quality, making them ideal for kitchens with heavy cooking.

However, with varied budgets, requirements and spaces, we understand that every church kitchen is different. Which is why Steeltops are not the only solution…

Compact laminate
Sitting neatly between steel and laminate in terms of price and durability, compact laminate worktops are waterproof and resistant to a high level of heat. Plus, they are durable against abrasion and impact – ideal for kitchens serving dinner to the masses.

Laminate
Available in a range of colors and patterns, laminate is perfect for those on a smaller budget. Affordable and waterproof, maintenance is minimal, and they can be cleaned easily in seconds with just a cloth and warm, soapy water. However, as they are easily damaged by sharp or heavy objects and hot pans, laminate is better for serving sandwiches in your community café, rather than piping hot meals.

Solid surface
Wonderful to touch and, similarly to laminate, available in a range of colours and patterns, solid surface worktops provide a highly aesthetic look. Non-porous, they are highly resistant to bacteria and staining, and resistant to temperatures of up to 340C – perfect if you’re cooking up a storm for your congregation. However, these countertops are susceptible to scratches, so care must be taken when slicing cake during a bake sale!

Granite
A classic option, granite is both unique and appealing. Strong enough to take the heat of anything, they’re hygienic and super-easy to clean – great for busy kitchens. But being porous, they need to be sealed at least once every two years, and due to their weight, they require full support from the cabinets after fitting.

Each worktop has its own pros and cons, but Steelplan Kitchens can advise on the most suitable for your requirements and space. Call us on 0844 809 9186 to find out how we can help with your kitchen renovation.
