Summertime, and the kitchen is busy: events and rental opportunities for your community group kitchen
As summer arrives, so does inspiration for events, new revenue streams, and new community-building activities. Here are the summer fixtures that can put your kitchen and community hub at the centre of the season, and how you can make the most out of those events.
Renting out your hall to clubs and groups
A great way to earn some money for the community with relatively little outlay or effort is to rent your hall space to external users. In the summer, there is likely to be demand for rental space from holiday clubs and courses for children.
Your kitchen could be an important factor in whether you get bookings — those courses may include cookery skills and activities, and a well-equipped and hygienic kitchen will be essential in that case.
A semi-commercial design will ensure that your kitchen is both hygienic enough to attract bookings, and is easy to clean after groups use it. Steelplan Kitchens always recommend a Zintec polyester powder coated carcass with a stainless-steel worktop. That makes the space wipe-clean, built to avoid the germs that sealant and MDF can harbour, and still a welcoming environment.
Summer sporting and cultural fixtures
Sporting fixtures like Wimbledon, the World Cup, or the Olymics, and national events like Trooping the Colour or D-Day anniversaries can bring the community together in great spirits. You might attract great crowds with just a projector and a screen, coupled with some food and drink.
Make sure your kitchen is ready to handle the volume, though. Aside from needing the hygienic design, your kitchen will need facilities to handle high-volume output, whether that is sufficient hobs, large enough ovens, or instant water boilers, make sure you have a low-stress way to cater to the crowds.
For example, if you are making and serving chips, you will obviously need a fryer. If you wish to offer burgers, you will need a grill. It is also worth considering if these things will be required all year round, or at least dependably every year — there is no sense in over-equipping your kitchen for one-off events. You will also need to consider if you have enough space for users to work comfortably in the kitchen, and to store, prepare, warm and cool ingredients.
