Events and inspiration for all seasons in 2025

2025 brings another year of possibilities for your kitchen. Whether it is bringing your community closer together or reaching out to the neighbourhood and beyond, there is a whole calendar of events and activities that your kitchen can enable. Here is some inspiration.

Looking ahead to the new year, here is inspiration for events you can hold across 2025, and how your community kitchen can enable it.

Seasonal events in your community centre

The seasons offer the chance to run popular events that tend to find an enthusiastic audience. Your kitchen can cater to these events and possibly even use them to generate funds for your community centre.

Spring

Easter egg hunts, egg painting classes, flower arranging competitions and courses are superb ways to welcome spring. There is something for all ages, and families will be delighted to have local activities during the school holidays.

TIP: Catering to large groups or crowds requires equipment like instant hot water boilers to keep up with the inevitable demand for teas and coffees. Make sure your kitchen is ready to handle large events.

Summer

During fair, fete, and alfresco dining season (and even longer school holidays to fill) the neighbourhood will flock to you if you hold events like barbecues, especially if they are alongside other activities with or for the local community.

TIP: If you are distributing or selling food, you will need to register as a food business.

Autumn

Pumpkin carving and bonfire nights always go down well, especially if you have warming drinks at the ready. Your instant boiler is also perfect for mulled cider and mulled wine, which are always popular choices as the colder nights draw in.

Winter

Wreath-making and carol singalongs are tried and tested events for the festive season. If you are feeling ambitious and have some willing participants, a community pantomime can be a relatively inexpensive but incredibly enjoyable fixture. It can even raise money with ticket sales and interval drinks and nibbles.

Ongoing events in your community centre

Of course some things can be year-round, and they can be hugely important parts of people’s lives and your outreach efforts.

Coffee mornings, support groups, and pay-what-you-can lunches

Coffee mornings can be a lifeline to those who would otherwise be lonely or unable to pursue social events or days out, and they can simply be a beloved fixture of local life.

The same goes for support groups. Whether bereavement, illness, addiction, or any struggle, offering people a place to come, feel heard, and get their worries off their chest can give them strength at their most difficult moments.

If your community centre is in an area where some might struggle to make ends meet, or perhaps if it has a large student population, pay-what-you-can lunches can help people get a hearty meal without feeling hesitant or ashamed of accepting help. Many will also benefit from having a friendly place to come regularly and see familiar faces.

Film nights

Many people love the cinema, but it is increasingly expensive, and some also find it difficult to travel there. If you have a hall, all it takes to create a cosy local cinema is a set of chairs, drawn curtains, a screen, a projector, and a DVD or streaming service. Tickets and refreshments can help the event pay for itself or even make a small profit.

Classes

Renting out a room or a hall to classes like dance, martial arts, pilates, yoga, or toddler and baby groups is another excellent way to generate revenue for your community.

To support all of these initiatives and events, you must have a kitchen that is durable enough to cope with heavy use, and easy to clean so that it remains a hygienic environment. A semi-commercial kitchen from Steelplan is the perfect option — a mild steel carcass, stainless steel worktop, and choice of finishes mean that you have a robust kitchen environment that remains welcoming and accessible.
