THREE CHURCHES, THREE VERY DIFFERENT KITCHENS

In search of a new lease of life, these three churches didn’t hold back on their kitchen renovation plans. And even with different spaces and designs, all three are now thriving…

Our Lady Queen of Peace, Worchester

With a busy church hall and an old, tired kitchen, Our Lady Queen of Peace needed a new kitchen to keep up with the demand. From a children’s nursery to parish groups and Spanish dancing classes, the space had to meet a lot of requirements, while also accommodating all their needs. With all this in mind, plus a tight space and tricky layout, an appropriate design was a challenge.

However, after contacting Steelplan, a semi-commercial model with a steel frame and powder-coated doors was installed, which made Reverend Paul very happy. ‘It will certainly last. And we were able to make certain cupboards lockable, with was important to some of our groups and made the kitchen safer,’ he told us. ‘It looks wonderful. And we’re able to better serve the needs of our community.’

St George In the East, London

Faced with the dual challenge of being robust but also confined to the existing kitchen space, St George In The East’s committee spent a lot of time searching for the ideal solution. They wanted the strong nature of a steel kitchen, without the clinical, institutional feel of a fully commercial one. Which is when they came across Steelplan Kitchens who, as one member of the committee put it: ‘were well worth the expense.’

The new kitchen is hard-wearing and flexible – as it isn’t fully ‘built-in’ like a timber kitchen, it can be removed and refitted if the committee decide to renovate in the future. All in all, a clean and sturdy kitchen that is certainly being put through its paces by the team there.

St Philip’s, Reigate

In search of a replacement for their second-hand domestic model, St Philip’s Reigate needed something more resilient, but also semi-commercial to cope with the needs of a busy, friendly community. And with the added pressure of a local college requesting to start cookery lessons on the premises, time was of the essence.

Fitted in to the same space as the previous kitchen, Steelplan provided a solution that met the health and safety of the bustling church kitchen, but still had the warm, aesthetic that a church space needs. Mary White at the church was ‘thrilled with the end result’ and it’s now a much nicer space to work in and is easy to clean.
